With my first computer, an Atari 800xl, I programmed a stick figure of a house to drawn on the screen. The code took many hours to enter and negatively impacted my interest in programing. My incompetent high school C++ teacher killed any remaining interest I had.

My kids may have a better chance of staying interested with Raspberry Pi, a $25-35 credit card sized personal computer that runs on Debian Linux and contains kid-friendly programing tools. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMlOiMXeeP0 As for incompetent high school teachers…
