I pray for God to do things all the time. I pray for him to direct my life. I pray for him to lead others were he wants them. I believe that prayer is powerful because God moves as we pray. It had not occurred to me that while I pray for God to direct my life others prayers might be answered in the process. God has recently directed me to the ministry of Pioneer Bible Translators (PBT). I was praying for God to open a door that would utilize my 8.5 years of campus ministry experience. I was praying for a place where my passions for seeing people understand and pursue God’s purposes in their lives and the world. And while I was praying these prayers, the PBT staff were praying that God would meet their need for a Recruiter. PBT has been growing quickly and their field needs have grown as well. Recruiters help people (especially college students) consider God’s call to missions in light the passions and experience they already have. They assess the needs both stateside and abroad and help find people who will say “yes’ to God’s invitation meet these needs and join Him in His mission to Bible-less people.
One of the things that has most excited me about PBT is how focused on prayer they are. When we pray big prayers and big things happen we can only give the credit to God. I was recently introduced at a staff retreat as an answer to PBT’s prayers. I was later asked, “So, how does it feel to be the answer to prayer?” I responded that “I need to be praying about what God wants me to do then.” It is humbling to be that answer to peoples prayers. Mostly because I know that anything that my presence actually accomplishes with PBT has much more to do with God than me. God brought this far through prayer. And it will be through prayer that I see what God plans do through me. Prayer is remembering who is in control. I am not in control. I am a servant of the King. God will do big things because He is God and if I get to be a part of those things it will be in remembering that I need Him.
