"and who through the Spirita of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of Godb by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord."
Jesus is the Son of God! Jesus’ relationship to God should not be something we gloss over flippantly. Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is a powerful declaration of the of Jesus’ relationship to God confirmed to us through His Holy Spirit. This relationship is important because it reminds us that Jesus yields the power of God.
Death is a reality for everything that lives. The act of bringing someone back to life after being dead for many days has only been done by Jesus. Jesus rose Lazarus from the dead four days after he had died and been put in the tomb (John 11:17). And Jesus rose to life himself on the third day of his death. These death defying acts scream out with the power of God. Only someone possessing God’s power could restore life to someone long dead. The person yielding this power could only be God or of God (God’s offspring). In raising life out of death Jesus’ relation to God is confirmed. This confirmation of the power of Jesus and His relationship to God is revealed to us though His Holy Spirit and by His resurrection.
If Jesus has the power to bring life out of death then he is the master of all life. Because of sin, all God’s creation was headed for death. Only someone who could overcome death could give God’s creation new life. Jesus overcame death. Everything that truly lives, lives through Jesus, who overcame the death that through sin was due to all life. Jesus’ power over death makes him Lord of life. Jesus is our Lord. He is Lord of all life because only He can overcome death. Those who desire to overcome death must look to Lord Jesus; apart from Him all that is left is sin and death.
